Description

This piece is a large heavy ledger, unfortunately devoid of identifying information beyond the names of the customers. The book is 12 15/16h x 8 1/4w x 1 1/2"d. It has typical decoration: brown buckram cover with Greek keys and other motifs printed on the buckram, top and bottom panels of dark red leather with gold printed Greek key motifs, and a 2 1/8" band around the spine right in the middle of the cover. The other spine panels are black with decorative gold stamping. The top spine panel says LEDGER in gold. The ledger is quite dirty and quite damaged on all the corners and especially the spine, partly from use and partly from vermin. There is an index of entries, numbered pp. 1-59 are full page accounts, pp. 349-383 are half page entries, all other pages blank. There are occasional lost pages that appear to be deliberate. There are scribbled figures on the last pages. Index tab A Abell, Wallis; Abell, Stephen; Abell, Henry of Alec; Abell, Chas. P; Abell, Alec of [?]; Abell, Enoch B.
