Text on the verso: Stamped in turquoise ink--"Photo taken by George Morgan Knight, Jr. P.O. Box 216[?] Leonardtown, Md" on a separate sheet--"Winter comes to the Leonardtown wharf at the head of Bretton's Bay. When the bay is frozen over like this, no steamer can arrive for from two to four months. The bay has been known to freeze to a depth of twenty feet, and residents from Newtown Neck drove horses across and walked across when the bay was in this condition. In modern times automobiles and trucks are driven across." [George Morgan Knight, Jr.]Collection
