This is buff paper with pale blue lines. In this letter, written in pencil, George Hayden addressed his sister from New Market, Virginia on February 13, 1863. He had just received her letter dated January 3rd. Hayden had been told by James Warring that his sister Mollie had died and Hayden wanted Kate to confirm or deny this. He was trying to accept the death as the will of God. He also believed God found the Confederate cause to be just. He passed along news of friends for whom he provided incomplete names. A transcription of the letter is included.
