Julia states that Karl is the son of Cecil Guyther, who is Gwynn's mother's third cousin and Julia's. In the photo he is seen in his military school uniform. She mentions that not long before that she had received a photo of Karl's father Karl Ewald Sr. Karl Sr. is pictured on horse-back in Mississippi.
