Description

Rachel Biays married John A. Webster in 1816, changing her name from Biays to Webster. This letter, written in 1822 and addressed to her step-sister Susan Brown, describes the goings-on around Rachel's neighborhood including a bout of fever/consumption possibly caused by contaminated barrels of water. Rachel herself describes a diagnosis of liver problems to be treated with mercury "in small doses until [her] mouth becomes sore." There is genealogical context compiled in the beginning and end of the passage but the author is uncredited. The letter is a typed transcription of the original letter with page numbers at the bottom 7, 8, and 9.
