This is a black and white photo of Lettie Dent as Margaret Brent for the 1934 Tercentenary of Maryland pageant. She was standing in front of the portico at Tudor Hall. She had on some kind of soft oversize beret with a large white feather that laid across her brow. Her dress was a dark velvet with a wide neck, a weskit effect, squared panels on a peplum, and a white underskirt. There were white puffy sleeves on the garment. There were three? rows of what looked like rick-rack around the neck, in a chevron effect on the weskit and the underskirt, down the front edge of the overgarment and around its hem. She was holding the skirt of the dress away from her body as if preparing to curtsey. She had a piece of dark jewelry on a chain around her neck. Below her image is the catchphrase for the exhibit, "Celebrating the Women of St. Mary's County's Past." Miss Dent was the Superintendent of Schools from 1927-1956, the only female superintendent in the state, so it was appropriate that she would play Margaret Brent, the only woman to ask for the vote.Collection
