Description

1 large wooden trunk 28" long, 16 1/2"h that domes upward to 17 3/4", 15 5/8" wide with the lid being 5 3/4" high. The straps are 1 3/4" wide. There are 2 hinges in back, 2 latches in front and a key lock in the center front. The spaces between the wooden straps were decorated with sheets of pressed tin in an elaborate pattern, but many of the sheets are gone. The interior of the trunk no longer has a tray. It is lined in a light colored paper with a small figure. Mud-dauber wasps made their home in a corner of the lid at one time. A label on one narrow end says "Kemp Mattingly Abell's P.O. St. Mary's Co. Md." Mr. Mattingly had a store in Abell.
