Description

View is from the water, direction unknown. Black and white print. Large white three story house with a gable roof and the light in the center of the roof. Inside end chimney on each end. The one on the right may have a foghorn on top. There are two small windows in the attic space, one on each side of the chimney. There are no other windows on this end of the house. All the windows have shutters. On the second floor are 5 twelve light double hung windows symetrically arranged. Below is a five bay porch with white pillars, a white railing all around and a leanto roof. Two twelve light double hung windows on each side flank a central door. A wide single flight of stairs is in the center of the building; it appears to have eight risers. The space under the porch is open and at least one window is barely visible. There may be a door at the bottom of the gable end that opens toward the two small outbuildings visible on the right. A small amount of fencing is visible there. On the left is a large circular tank on a square platform with a hipped roof and possibly a lightning rod on top. The tank is more than one story above the ground and there is a long stairway up to the platform around the tank. Large X braces support the platform for the tank. There does not appear to be a railing on the platform. Centered on the house roof is a large circular plaster? concrete? structure with one visible small window. Above that, capping it, is a circular platform that is probably metal. There are metal posts with chain? strung between them to provide a railing. Above that is an eight-sided windowed structure capped by a circular roof with a ball on top. There are two large trees on the far end of the house. The shoreline has a rock revetment. It is probably summer--some windows are open and the trees are fully leafed. This lighthouse was also known as the Blakiston Light on Blakiston Island.
