Description

5 5/8"h x 4"w sepia tone photo of Lillia Josepha Dent's grave. She died in 1883, barely in her teens, leaving her father alone in the world. The photo shows the grave mound and many flowers, wreaths, and plants laid on the mound. In addition, the letters FAITH were on the grave in greenery highlighted with small yellow? flowers. A banner was on two stakes above the grave with LILLIA in greenery and highlighted with the same flowers. There is a certain amount of scribbling in fountain ink on the image and the verso. The letter L and I on the banner are outlined in ink. My guess is that Mr. Dent used this copy of the photo to practice what he would say on the copies he sent to family and friends. ************************************ Text on verso: in black fountain ink twice "Affectionately and sorrowfully Your brother J.H. Dent" various scribblings "beautiful daisy belle" "sorrowfully"
