Description

Sepia-tone photograph on board 6 3/8"h x 4 3/8"w of Liza Combs Hutchins. She is facing the camera, but her face is turned to her left. Miss Hutchin's face is framed in curls and the rest of her hair is pulled to the top of her head. She has a high dark collar with a flower pin at her throat. The rest of her dress has elaborate pleats that cross over to form a bodice. Her sleeves are gathered and puffed at the shoulder. It appears that some of the material is plain and some is patterned. On the band at the bottom of the photo it says, "Blessing & Co. No. 214 N. Charles St. Baltimore, Md." There is a lengthy note with this photo: "Liza Combs Hutchins was dau. of Sarah Simms and William Frank Combs. Sarah Simms was dau. of Teresa Fenwick and her second husband John Simms. She (Liza) married Geo. T. Hutchins and had one dau. (adopted) Magie (some say Doyle) After the death of Liza, Geo. T. Hutchins married his adopted dau. Maggie and had dau. Elizabeth." ******************************************* Text on verso: Liza Combs Hutchins [very faint] mar. 1890 Geo. T. Hutchins J. P. Blessing Henry Fenge Blessing & Co. Photographic & Portrait Gallery no. 214 N. Charles St. above Lexington Baltimore, Md." This piece was loose in the back of the dark red photograph album.
