Locust Hill in Maddox 1Entry/Object ID
1995.001.2265Description
3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w black and white photo of Locust Hill in the Maddox area. It was a story and a half gable roofed building with large chimneys at each gable end. The view was of one gable end. The roof was steep and clad in sheet metal. The outside end chimney was straight on the side that emerged at the roof peak and had multiple shoulders on the other side. A dormer was just visible in the back roof beyond that side of the chimney. On the right side of the chimney, there was a shed roof pent with a small square four light window. On a high wooden support at the foot of the chimney was an oil tank. There was a four over four window between the straight side of the chimney stack and the roof line, above the middle of the pent. On the first floor there was a six over six window between the pent and the corner of the building. Electricity came to the house above that window. Below that window was some sort of access to the cellar. There may have been a similar window on the other side of the chimney. There was a small gable roofed shed next to the left side of the chimney that was either a well house or access to a cellar. A closed end shed roof screened porch was just visible on the far side of the house. On the other side of the house, the porch covered the entire wall. Two bays were open and two bays were screened. The porch was several steps above the ground. The underneath area of the porch was screened off by widely spaced boards. There was a six over six double hung window near the corner of the wall, an electric meter, and an entry door next to that. A cat held court on the porch.
