Photo 5 7/8"h x 3 7/8""w on 6 7/16"h x 4 3/16"w board of infant Lottie May Fenwick. She is facing slightly to the right. This is a seated portrait. She is in a triangular portrait chair draped with some dark fabric and there is more drape behind and to her left. There may be an arm of an older person disguised under the material. The little girl's dark eyes are focussed intently on something to the right of the camera. She has rather shaggy light colored hair. Her right hand is in her lap and the other hand is just under her chin. She has on a light-colored dress with a lace ruffle, but other details are too difficult to see. The dress is pulled up to her knees and her feet are bare. Her left leg is drawn up on the chair and her right leg crosses over the lower leg at the ankle. This is much less formal than most infant portraits, but it may have been the best they could do with a not too cooperative child. In the space at the bottom of the board is written in gold lettering on a dark ground "Merrit & VanWagner., 925 Penn. Ave., Washington, D.C."
