Scope and Content

1 folder ; 14 3/4" x 9 5/8" This folder has three mortgages for the Graves and Loves families. 1. January 20, 1874 L. Ford Graves mortgaged Bachelor's Rest, a property of 218 acres for $300. If he paid it off in two years, all was well, but if he didn't, it remained a lien on the property. In 1882, the mortgage was assigned to Simon P. Graves. Transcription included. 2. May 12, 1874 This was a chattels mortgage, rather than a property mortgage. Ann P. Higgs mortgaged two cows and one yearling to Ellen E. Graves in return for $27.15 to be repaid with interest. Transcription included. 3. October 17, 1892 Mary J. Love granted Benedict B. P. Love the land called Part Roundabout and also Part Santa Cruz for a payment to her of $286.50. Mary Love could live there, but if she defaulted, the land could be sold at auction. Scanned as an example. Transcription included.
