3 1/2"h x 5"w black and white photo of the tenant house at Woodly, Dr. James Thomas Notley Maddox's farm in Washington County, Maryland. It was a large gable roofed, two story, clapboard siding house. Part of it had been a log house that was incorporated into later additions. In this view, the two story main building had its gable end facing the photographer. There was an inside end chimney on each end of the house. At a right angle to the building was a large two story addition, also with a gable roof. It had an outside end chimney on the left. A large television antenna followed the line between the two parts of the house. There was a four light window to the right of the chimney stack and near the gable peak. On the second floor there was a single six over six window. On the first floor were two six over six windows covered with plastic sheeting. On the long side of the house were three windows, also covered with plastic sheeting. The first floor had a central entry door with eight lights and a window covered with plastic sheeting on each side. A hipped roof two bay open porch covered about two thirds of that wall. A glider and a hanging swing were on the porch and other lawn furniture was nestled against the house for the winter. The porch floor was two steps above the ground. A large oil tank was on the gable end of the main building. There were three six over six windows on the second floor of the addition and two on the first floor. A low shed was behind the gable end of the addition. The photo illustrates an article by Gerald Sword about Doctor Maddox in Volume 34, No. 8 (August 1986) p. 389-396, Chronicles of St. Mary's.
