Description

5"h x 7"w black and white photo taken in 1952 of Marie Simpson, chief telephone operator in 1912, standing in front of the C&P Telephone Co. office. She had short hair curled back from her face, glasses with dark rims, a dark sweater and skirt and dark heels. She was near a swinging metal sign for the C&P business office. The house up the hill and behind her was a two story gable end with a large chimney on the right and a five bay screened porch with decorative railings and verge boards covering the long side of the first floor. There were five windows across the front of the house on the second floor, so it was a sizable building. The faithful dog was waiting on the lawn. ********************************** Text on verso: in pencil "page 106" On a piece of brown paper in black ink "Marie Simpson--Chief Operator; C&P Telephone Co.--1912 In front of exchange--Picture 1952" and in a circle "48"
