Description

Carte-de-visite 3 9/16"h x 2 5/16"w on 4 1/8"h x 2 1/2"w board of infant Mary L. Ford. She is facing very slightly to the left. She has fair hair and delicate features. Her dress has a wide eyelet trim around the hem and a band of ruching part way up the skirt. The long sleeves probably have eyelet trim as well. There may be pleats or smocking on the bodice. [This may be the same dress worn by V. Howard Ford for his infant portrait.] She has on a necklace with some sort of pendant, possibly even a cross. She has on white shoes with a very flat sole. She is seated on a small upholstered chair and there is a drape behind her that angles from the top corner of the photo to the edge of the chair. She is a lovely young lady. In the space at the bottom of the carte it says "Kuhn & Cummins 48 & 50 N. Charles St. Baltimore" in very elegant script. ******************************************* On the verso "Kuhn & Cummins" is in sweeping cursive gold lettering at an angle with "48 & 50 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Md." also in gold lettering under the studio name. On the top of the card is written in blue fountain ink "Compliments, Miss Mary L. Ford" This piece was in the lower right of page 4 of the dark red photograph album.
