Description

This 8"h x 10"w color photo is of Mattapany on the grounds of the Patuxent River Naval Air Warfare Center. There had been a terrific ice storm, so Lt. Riley took pictures of the shiny landscape. This view was of the main entrance gate to the house. There was a five bar fence separating the house from the road with a circular? drive to bring guests to the door. The gate had two open X sections on each side attached to brick? pillars with electric lights on the top. The central block of the house was two and a half stories with three dormers in the roof . There were five windows on the second floor and two windows on each side of the central door on the first floor. There was a two story addition on the right and a single story addition beyond that. There was a pyramid roof outbuilding on the far right. The road had not been plowed, but the snow was not very deep. ******************************* Text on verso: "Mattaponi Ice Storm 1960 or 62 Photo Lab Pax Riv. MD Lt.
