3 1/2"h x 3 1/8"w black and white photo of the remains of the Methodist meeting house. It began life in Leonardtown and had a cemetery, but the building was eventually moved to Buena Vista and used as a barn. It was a large gable roofed clapboard structure with a shed roof addition on each long side. The roof appeared to be metal sheets. The visible gable end had a horseshoe shaped opening near the roof peak, two narrow rectangular openings on the second level and three narrow rectangular openings on the lower level. There may have been a balcony or porch on the gable end; it was common for the slaves to sit in a balcony above the rest of the white congregation. There were several courses of clapboards missing from the gable end. The addition on the right had a closed end with vertical boards that completed the roof triangle, but the opening below was large, perhaps for farm equipment. The addition on the left had a closed end of vertical boards that came two or three feet below the roof triangle. That same arrangement was on the long side of the space. There were many gaps and broken boards. The building appeared to be awaiting a gust of wind so it could gracefully fall down.
