5 3/4"h x 4"w sepia photographic portrait of a man who may have been in his forties. He had slightly waved dark hair parted on his left and carefully combed. He had a generous dark mustache, but was otherwise clean-shaven. He had on a possibly subtle plaid suit coat with bound lapels, a nearly invisible vest, a white shirt and a splendid polka dot dark bow tie. He was looking up and to his right. In the border below the image "Sutton Hornellsville, N.Y."
Text on verso: A very elaborate cream colored label over the entire board advertised the Sutton Photography Company. "Sutton made the first photograph ever taken in Steuben County" and "The negative of this photograph is preserved and can be reduced for the smallest locket, or enlarged up to life size in crayon, ink or water color."Collection
