This folder contains ca. 90 pages of the court case filed by Caroline Smith Miles and her husband, Thomas Miles against the estate of Elwiley Smith. According to Elwiley's will, Caroline was supposed to receive an annual sum that represented the interest from $3500. Her brother George Smith was the executor of the will and received a 450A. farm as his share. He proved to be a spendthrift and Caroline never received a nickel of her inheritance, so she and her husband sued. It was a complicated case, because George had sold the property and then died. The pages include an auditor's report, a survey, many depositions, and all kinds of back and forth between lawyers.Collection
