Scope and Content

1 folder ; 14 3/4" x 9 1/2" In the Civil War, Clement Lloyd was a corporal in the 9th United States Colored Infantry, enlisting on October 23, 1863. He mustered out on November 26, 1866 in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1889, he applied for a pension for his service. Many forms and years later, he did receive a pension. Because of the paperwork, we know the names of his children, although the birth dates are confused. He died in March of 1923, so his children had to file more paperwork to cancel the pension and apply for a $75 burial benefit. Many years later, his family received an acknowledgement of Corporal Lloyd's service from the African-American Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation.
