In the War of 1812, Elijah Tarleton was a private in Regiment 12 of the Maryland Militia, called Fenwick's. He served under Captain Joseph Williams, Lieutenant Richards Evans, Lieutenant John Milburn, and Captain Cornelius Combs. Athanasius Fenwick was the lead officer. He served in several areas of Saint Mary's County.
