16 1/2"h x 11 1/8"w sheet from a calendar produced for Thrift Oil Company of Leonardtown. This would have been an expensive product, perhaps reserved for the company's best customers. The backing sheet was fairly heavy brown paper and the top sheet had a pale gold background with brown lines. Two holes were punched just below the top edge and a brown cloth ribbon was tied in a bow to serve as a hanger for the sheet. Just below the bow was "Thrift Oil Company Shell Products--Firestone Tires Leonardtown, Maryland." The pale gold sheet was 15 3/4"h x 10 1/8"w with an opening 2 5/8" from the top and 2" from each side. This made a frame for an illustration that was 9"h x 6 5/8"w. There were two heavy brown lines and four brown fine lines printed around the opening. The 3 7/8" space left on the gold sheet held a calendar sheet of 2 3/4"h x 5 3/8"w for the month of November tied in place with thin brown yarn. The illustration is of a brown haired girl with pigtails, blue eyes, red cheeks, and bare feet sitting on straw in a barn in front of a brown wall and a green wooden cask. She had on an oversize straw hat, a red and green plaid short sleeved shirt and clear red overalls. She was holding a golden yellow chick and had others crawling over her legs. There is no information about the manufacturer of the calendar. It is certainly a 1950s image.Collection
