7 3/8"h x 5 1/4"w oval sepia tone photographic portrait of a woman and a small child. The woman was quite young, I think. Her hair was likely brown, parted in the middle, very smooth down to and past her ears and then in a roll behind. It was a very flattering style for her. She wore circular earrings about the size of a thumbnail. She looked at the camera, not at the child in her lap. She had on a dark, likely silk, blouse with dropped full sleeves. The blouse had a white tie collar and light colored buttons down the front. She had on a voluminous multi-gore light colored skirt. Her right hand rested on the baby's skirt and her left hand held the child on her lap. The infant was completely bald, but its face was indistinct. Its dress had short sleeves with large bows at the shoulders. The material may have been a foulard print with a wide skirt with folds near the hem, perhaps to allow for letting out later. The baby had on dark leather tie shoes. There is something odd about the baby--its feet and arms are much too big for the head. There may be a story, but we will never know. The image was mounted on cardboard, but then was cut from that board. Since the early parts of this collection are about the Graves family, I assume this is a Graves person.
