3 3/8"h x 4 7/8"w photo of people on the Mother Catherine Spalding pilgrimage to Pleasant Hill near Pomfret in Charles County. This was taken at the reception after the field event. This woman in the center was likely known to the photographer. The woman in red tried to avoid having her picture taken. Pleasant Hill was the birthplace of Mother Catherine Spalding, who went to Kentucky as a young girl and subsequently assisted in founding the Sisters of Charity in Nazareth, Kentucky. It was a teaching order and supplied teachers for several southern Maryland schools, such as St. Mary's Academy. Several local women joined the order. This series of photos was of a pilgrimage to Mother Spalding's birthplace.
