Description

3 3/8"h x 4 7/8"w photo of people on the Mother Catherine Spalding pilgrimage to Pleasant Hill near Pomfret in Charles County. The red robed priest at the altar was speaking to a man to whom he had presented a plaque or certificate. It is tempting to think this was the present owner of the home who hosted the gathering. This was the birthplace of Mother Catherine Spalding, who went to Kentucky as a young girl and subsequently assisted in founding the Sisters of Charity in Nazareth, Kentucky. It was a teaching order and supplied teachers for several southern Maryland schools, such as St. Mary's Academy. Several local women joined the order. This series of photos was of a pilgrimage to Mother Spalding's birthplace. ************************************ Text on verso: in blue stamp ink Kodak Colorwatch System logo repeated and "Apr 87 F" repeated
