Black and white photograph 3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w of the interior of Newtown Manor house. This imposing building was a Jesuit residence for many years. This view is in the basement. A wire stretches across the ceiling. There is a large deep fireplace in the center of the photo. Back in one corner are two andirons leaning on the wall, a shovel with no handle and some sort of poker. The other corner is full of trash. There is an ancient wooden folding chair to the left of the fireplace and above it something that looks like a measuring device. Two pieces of wood protrude from the wall over the fireplace. They were likely meant to support a shelf, but only a stick is up there. The timber over the firebox, the wall above and the ceiling are all quite black, so this fireplace must have been heavily used at one time. Perhaps it was the kitchen fire. Everything is dirty.
