Black and white photograph 3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w of the interior of Newtown Manor house. This imposing building was a Jesuit residence for many years. This view is of a parlor or a study. The three visible walls are painted paneling, light in color. There is dark molding between the walls and the ceiling. There is a fireplace in the center of the wall in front of the camera that is framed in simple dark molding with a thin mantel. There are four ceramic pieces scattered on the mantel. Directly above the fireplace, in a space in the paneling just for it is a framed painting of an undetermined subject. The firebox has been closed off and there is a hole in the center to accomodate a stove pipe, although there is no stove. A tall tapered flower basket with a very tall handle, perhaps for altar flowers, frames the hole. There is a small ceramic jug next to the basket that could be a churn. On each side of the fireplace is a door that are as dark as the fireplace molding. On the right side of the photo is a rolltop desk that is in front of or next to a tall window. There are dark draperies on the window. I think there is a chair next to the desk. On the opposite side of the fireplace is a large upholstered wing chair with a slipcover. There are books in the chair seat. There may be a table behind the chair. There is a four bulb light fixture hanging from the ceiling.
