This is a photograph of Oakland, a large two story home in Hollywood, Maryland. This view showed one long side, a gable end and chimney, a two-story addition on the right, and another one story wing beyond that. There were three dormers in the roof of the main building, each with a six over six window. On the second floor of the long side were five four over four windows, some with missing shutters. The roof of the porch on the first floor was slightly hipped. It was one bay deep and three bays wide. Two windows and a central door were visible; other windows were obscured by a large bush. A hammock was hung on the porch. The porch floor was two steps from the ground and was open underneath. On the gable end there was a large brick chimney that was in need of tuckpointing. There were no attic windows, one window on each side of the chimney on the second floor and one visible window on the first floor. The first floor shutters were in pitiful condition. The two story wing had a metal gable roof at right angles to the main house. It had two windows on the second floor and two on the first. The shutters were in poor repair. The one story wing had a metal gable roof with an inside end chimney on the far peak. Any details of the wing were obscured by foliage. There probably was a porch on the long side. The general impression was of a fine old home gone to rack and ruin.
