Someone at the Sheriff's Office, in an excess of zeal, removed pages with oaths of office of sheriffs and deputies from the record book of J. Frank Ford, Court Clerk from 1873-1890. There were also oaths of office for Justices of the Peace, County Commissioners, School Commissioners, attorneys at law, etc. The pages were put in plastic sleeves and placed in a binder with photocopies of the lists of sheriffs from Regina Hammett's book "History of St. Mary's County, Maryland." This may have been done to help celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Sheriff's Department in the county. A photocopy has been made of each page as a use copy because the originals are too fragile to be handled. A transcription has been made of each page as well.Collection
