Description

4 9/16"h x 3 1/2"w portrait oriented black and white photo of part of Old School Hall at Charlotte Hall School. It was a very 19th century building. It was two stories tall in a general T shape. This photo was taken looking at one corner of the cross of the T. The stem of the T did not have any second floor windows. Three large four light windows were visible there and a small chimney pierced the standing seam gable roof. The wing nearest the camera had a standing seam hipped roof leading into a high gable standing seam roof that provided support for a hexagonal open bell tower that had a pyramid roof of its own. The tower had a railing between its square supports. The gable end was a large plain pediment containing an oval window with eight lights. The pediment jutted out from the building just a bit to create a two story portico. The second story space had a metal railing between white tapered posts. There were two large shuttered windows with four lights on each side of the portico on the first floor and two not as large shuttered windows with four lights on each side of the portico on the second floor. On the end of the wing nearest the camera, there were two shuttered windows on the second floor and two unshuttered windows on the first floor. A large chimney pierced the roof just to the left of the peak. A large door with a transom is barely visible in the portico on the first floor. There was no landscaping around the building, so it was quite stark.
