3 5/8"h x 2 3/8"w tintype of two women, one seated and one standing. The standing woman's face has been cut away and that small piece of tin is not in the collection. The seated woman had hair combed tight on the sides with a frizz of curls in front. She had on a garment of dark material with double light stripes in a pattern of large squares. The jacket had a white mandarin collar covered by a dark velvet? collar. There may have been a small cap at the shoulder over the long tight sleeves with white cuffs. The jacket was very closely fitted, with an impossibly small waist and a short peplum. There were 17 buttons--I hope not all of them were required to get in and out of the garment. The skirt was flared, but not voluminous. What is left of the other woman shows a similar garment in a plain color, likely black. The jacket had closely fitted sleeves and bodice with a gathered peplum that tapered to a lower point in the center front. The flared skirt was plain, also. The woman wore a large cross on a chain.
