Parade to Saint Mary's County FairEntry/Object ID
1995.001.0803Description
This photograph shows part of the parade to the fair grounds at Camp Calvert, but the exact location of the road is not mentioned. At the far right is an Army jeep with its canvas top in place. It has a dark pennant flying from a pole on the passenger side. Mr. Goldsborough is standing by the driver's side in his summer uniform and service cap; I think I can faintly see sergeant's stripes on his sleeve. He is followed by dozens of Leonard Hall students in ranks, bearing a Maryland flag, a Saint Mary's County flag, another flag I do not recognize--perhaps the school's flag, and a United States flag. Far down the hill at the end of the foot soldiers are various vehicles. There is a "woody" (an early station wagon) and assorted other cars. The large white area beyond the marchers is over-exposed and it is not possible to tell if it is water or a sand pit. The young students wear dark slacks and lighter shirts with dark ties and caps; the older students wear dark pants, uniform coats with appropriate braid and white caps with dark brims and decorations. The color guard group wears puttees. I believe there are drummers in that group.
