Patent for Mt. Misery, also known as Mattingly's HopeEntry/Object ID
1976.002.0001Scope and Content
1 piece ; 9 1/2" x 10 7/8"
This patent for one hundred acres of land called Mt. Misery or Mattingly's Hope was provided to Thomas Mattinly or Mattonly [Mattingly] in September of 1680 in return for a rent of four shillings a year. For some reason, the Historical Society petitioned for custody of the document and that custody was granted on August 11, 1976. The document has been folded for many years and has been damp, so some information has been lost. The seal is no longer present, but the strip of skin to hold the seal is partially present. An attempt at a transcription is present.Collection
