Scan of a 3 1/4"h x 2 1/8"w sepia tone photo of Sergeant Peter H. Butler in his United States Colored Troops uniform. The information below the photo indicates he was from Leonardtown and fought in the Wilderness, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, and Spotsylvania Courthouse battles. He was sitting, with his right leg crossed over his left, looking directly at the camera. His hair was short. He may have had a pencil mustache. He had on a dark jacket with three buttons at the sleeve cuff. He wore a light colored vest that was only buttoned at the neck. He wore light colored trousers with a wide dark stripe down the outside seam. He appeared to have a coat and hat in his left hand. He may have been holding a glove crumpled in his right hand and he wore two rings on that hand. The name and location of the photographer's studio is not on the verso.
