10"h x 8"w black and white portrait orientation photo of a painting of Philip Key, who lived from 1750-1820. The photo was purchased from the National Portrait Gallery for use in the Key Family exhibit done by the Historical Society in fall 2009. The artist has never been identified, but the Gallery believes the portrait was made between 1800 and 1820. This seems a little odd, because the portrait appears to be of a rather young man and Mr. Key would have been 50 in 1800. At any rate, the man had very dark hair with short bangs and curls to the nape of his neck. He had very dark eyes and a long nose. He had on a white shirt with a high neck and ruffles on the chest and wrists, a patterned vest with many buttons, and a dark coat with large buttons. The background on the painting is dark, so his face is a substantial spot of white.
