This is a rather small professionally done photograph of John Pickersgill-Cunliffe. He was Helen's husband and was a banker. John was born in 1819 to John and Sophia (nee Cunliffe) Pickersgill. Around 1867 he added the name Cunliffe to his surname after he inherited an estate from his maternal aunt. For a brief period of time he served as a Member of Parliament for Bewdley from March 11th until April 30th 1869. Tragically, on September 22, 1873 he was hit by a train at Caterham Junction railway station (presently called Purley Station). He was living in Coulsdon, Surrey at the time. He later died at Guy's Hospital in London two weeks later on October 6th, 1873.
The photo itself is a portrait with John inside a circle. On the inside of the circle at the top along the outline is "J.C. Pickersgill-Cunliffe M.P." and at the bottom is Bewdley. He has a dark colored jacket and a rather noticeable beard. At the bottom of the photo the type of photo is given as "Heraldic Portrait". Below that is "Bronze Medal" and underneath that is "Paris Exhibition 1867". On the back at the top someone wrote John's name. In the middle at an angle is the studio Bernieri Caldesir. Lastly, in the very bottom right corner is the studio's address "12, Pall Mall, East, London, SW".Collection
