2020.003.0007Description
Two Plains Community Newsletters from 1984 for the Fall and Summer seasons. The fall newsletter details Golden Beach's involvement in the War of 1812. Colonel Henry Jowles settled the area. However, in 1812 it was attacked by the British during the war when it was owned by Colonel Sothoron. After the war, the federal government granted the governor money to repair the plantation, although Col. Sothoron had died months earlier. The newsletter also called for Civil Rights and community, the establishment of the Golden Beach Mobile Patrol program, and interest in establishing a community pool.
The summer newsletter discusses information about the establishment and construction of the Plains Plantation and also establishes the future goals of the newsletter.Collection
