4 7/8"h x 3 3/8"w photo of Pleasant Hill near Pomfret in Charles County. A long dirt road led to a two story house with a dark gable roof and an outside end chimney on each end. There appeared to be porches on each level. Two yellow school buses were visible. This was the birthplace of Mother Spalding, who went to Kentucky as a young girl and subsequently assisted in founding the Sisters of Charity in Nazareth, Kentucky. It was a teaching order and supplied teachers for several southern Maryland schools, such as St. Mary's Academy. Several local women joined the order. This series of photos was of a pilgrimage to Mother Spalding's birthplace.
