Black and white 5 1/2"h x 8"w postcard of a lithograph of an aerial view of the Point Lookout bathing place in 1859. On the verso is an invitation to an exhibit of bird's-eye-views at the Maryland Historical Society on April 30, 1989. The lithograph was from the collection of Robert G. Merrick. Mr. Fenwick wrote a note: "This was recorded in the land records-glued in the record book, but came loose and is lost of [or] stolen. I thought I would never see it--then received this. CF" The lithograph shows an elaborate resort with curving streets, beautiful plantings, a carousel, hotels, little houses, and cabanas at the waterside. Sail and steam boats are much in evidence. The resort was developed by William Cost Johnson. It was very successful until the Civil War began.Collection
