Description

Color photo of the waterside portico at Sotterley mansion. The photo is on heavy paper. It was late fall and there were lots of leaves on the porch roof and on the ground. The gable end of the house was on the right, entirely covered with ivy. There was an inside end chimney on that end, a cupola in the center of the roof, and another chimney at the end of the primary building. There was decoration on the cupola, but it was too far away to identify. The porch roof covered both the primary building and an addition on the far end. Square white pillars on dark slate? supports held up the roof. On the gable end of the dormer was one small four light window. In the white clapboard dormer above the roof were six six-light double hung windows with black shutters. Two additional single window dormers had the same style windows and shutters. On the first floor were four large windows with storm shutters, a door, another window, another door, and at least two more windows. There were benches, chairs, and tables on the porch.
