Description

Sepia tone landscape photo 3 7/16"h x 5 3/4"w of Porto Bello on the southwest facing side. The original part of the house is fairly distinct, but two additions on the left end were not very clear. The original house had a gambrel roof with three dormers tucked under the top "layer" of the roof. There were four inside end chimneys and another chimney just visible between the two portions of the home. There were shed roof porches on each long elevation. The visible porch was a five bay affair, with three bays open and two enclosed. A very plain wooden railing enclosed the porch. The underside of the porch was open. There was a set of four steps up in front of a central door and another set on the right narrow end of the porch. A large vine had been allowed to grow up the far end of the porch, then all across the front eave and was making its way up the porch roof to the house roof. Where there would have been a pent between the chimneys on the right, there was a shed roof extension with a total of five narrow windows. The exterior of the house may have been painted brick or stucco; at any rate, it was white. Text on verso: in blue fountain ink "Porto Bello House Looking down the St. Mary's river"
