1 postcard ; 3 1/2"h x 5 1/2"w
Photo of the front of Hotel St. Mary's in Leonardtown. There are seven automobiles parked in front. The hotel has a ground floor sunken a few steps below grade, a first and second floor and a full attic. The metal gable roof has a widow's walk and six gable dormers with semi-arched windows in each with two over two lights. There is a substantial gable wing in the center of the building with a central window and an eyebrow window in the peak. The second floor has three large shuttered two over two windows on each side of the central gable. The shutters are missing on some of the windows on the right. The metal shed roof of the first floor porch is supported on pillars. Some sort of draperies are gathered up to the top of the porch on the right. There are a few people standing on that side of the porch. There are steps from the porch to the ground on the right end. Trees and shrubbery obscure the ground floor. The right gable end of the hotel has three windows on the first and second floors and perhaps two windows in the peak. On the extreme right of the photo is a sidewalk and there may be a gasoline pump, too. To the left of the hotel, another two story building is visible behind the trees; it may be the livery stable. Caption under the photo: "Hotel St. Mary's, Leonardtown, Md. A. J. Lomax, Prop." On the left edge of the postcard: "Pub. by Cullen Photo Co., Washington, D.C." The verso of the postcard is divided roughly in half by a very thin vertical line, 1/4" high black letters say POST CARD. In the upper left corner there is a 9/16" high figure, maybe of a postman, with the word "PARAGON" above it. There are two words below the figure that I cannot read.Collection
