Pourtnoy's Oversight in the first district has always been difficult to pin down because the shoreline changed and several acres were underwater at high tide. The 1750 survey was done by John Edwards, Deputy Survey[or] and was called Pourtnoy's Oversight Rectified. A sketch of the property and the courses of the original survey and the corrected survey are included in this document, which is a photostat of the original held in the Maryland Hall of Records. The second document, also a photostat of an original held in the Maryland Hall of Records, shows a sketch and courses of a survey made in late May 1788. Each survey was made on behalf of James Smith. There are many spellings of Pourtney's, Portnoy's, Portney's, etc.Collection
