Carte-de-visite in sepia tones 3 11/16"h x 2 7/16"w of Rebecca Fenwick, whose name in religion was Sister Mary Joseph. Miss Fenwick is seated with her left arm on a pile of books and her right arm draped across her lap in front of some sort of backdrop with a painting of a dead tree. She has dark hair that is parted slightly to the left of center, combed back behind her ears and then gathered together just at the nape of her neck. She has some sort of dark headpiece at the back of her head that gives the impression of a rising sun. She also has large plain hoop earrings. She has a small plain white collar perhaps with a pin at her throat. She wears full length sleeves that are ruched on the upper arm and there appear to be white cuffs at her wrists. The bodice fits tightly and there is a row of ten buttons down the center front. This garment may be of one piece with an overskirt because the skirt is definitely two colors. The photographer, Jos. Passano, Jr., has his name and address on the verso: "123 W. Baltimore St. Baltimore, Md." Mr. Passano says he is the successor to Whitehurst & Co. Mr. Fenwick wrote "Sister Mary Joseph" in blue ball point at the bottom of the card and someone else wrote "Rebecca Fenwick later Sr. Mary Joseph Fenwick Sr. of Mercy" in ink on the top of the verso.
This piece was in the lower left of page 2 of the dark red photograph album.Collection
