So far, there is nothing in the material to suggest what Coad's business was in Baltimore.
These rectangular receipts (8"h x 3"w) in a dull yellow with black print were for Coad's stays at the Southern Hotel in Baltimore. He appeared to go to Baltimore several times per year and always stayed at the Southern. The receipts showed a room charge, but did not indicate how many days were on a given receipt. In 1945, it appeared that the room charge was $4.50 per night, but the later price was $5.00. Sometimes he used the restaurant and usually used the telephone. He nearly always was in room 500, although later in the 1950s, he sometimes was assigned room 700.
There is one receipt for the Francis Scott Key Hotel in Frederick where he stayed in April 1954. The room rate was again $4.50 per night.Collection
