14"h x 9 1/4"w x 1"d
This is a ledger (14"h x 9 1/4"w x 1"d) with a black pebbled cover and maroon corners and spine. It had a five panel spine, but the top panel is gone. It says “Journal” on the second panel and “200C” on the bottom panel. A label of what had been white paper with blue lines, now very brown, was pasted in the center of the front cover. “Mortgages of the Leonardtown Bank of the Eastern Shore Trust Co.” had been typed on the label, but that was scratched out in favor of “Record of Safekeeping for Depositors County Trust Co. of Maryland” in heavy black fountain ink. The book covers an extended period: 1912 for the mortgages and then 1917-1934 for the Liberty bonds, etc. Its pages are stamped with the typical blue numbers. The book is very dirty.
