The State of Maryland prescribed the attendance book to be used by the public schools in the state. The books were printed by a contract printer. Teachers were not supposed to be paid until they turned in a satisfactory record for the pay period. This collection includes books from eight election districts from 1866-1938, as well as a Child Care Center which operated during World War II. Though there are one hundred ten books in the group, it is not a complete record for every school. The books are for K-8 schools; no high school records are included.Collection
