Description

5 1/2"h x 9 1/2"w landscape oriented color photo of the replica of the Dove that was built for the tercentennial celebration at St. Mary's City in June 1934. This is a hand-colored photo of the small craft. It had three sails and a long bowsprit. The stern was high, but the bow was low and blunt and did not look much like a sea-going vessel. Another ship is visible at the far right edge of the photo. The photo is mounted on board with a board "frame" around the image. In the lower left corner is a seal declaring the photo a "Master Exhibit Enlargement." ************************************ Text on verso: A very official label calls itself "Official classification label" and that the photo was "Entered in classification no. 2." The image was the property of Mr. Edward D. Chase of St. Mary's City, Maryland. The dealer's name was "S. L. Raley 205 E" dated July 12, 1934. The title of the picture was "The Dove--St. Mary's City, Md., 1934"
