Description

Water color by Father Stephen Tushak of Resurrection Manor, Hollywood, Md as it might have been as a gentleman's home. It is a summer scene. The part of the house on the right is a rectangular brick story and a half with inside end chimneys at each end with corbel caps. There are three gabled dormers in the visible roof, a center door on the first floor, and an fifteen-light window on each side of the door. Both the windows and door are capped with brick arches. The door is recessed into the wall. There is one small window and the suggestion of another behind a bush on the first floor of the visible end of the building. There is a set of five steps up to the front door and a railing on each side of the stairs. A white frame hyphen leads from the left side of the above building to another brick building oriented ninety degrees to the first one. In front of the hyphen is a small square white building with windows in each visible side. Each window has a blue segmental pediment. The roof is a pyramid style, capped with a small white globe. This building appears to be connected to the main house. The hyphen has two gabled dormers visible behind the square building and there is a door and a small corner porch on the first floor where the hyphen joins the second building. The second building has brick ends, with a frame wall facing the hyphen. There are two gable dormers on the second floor and two small, inset and arched windows on the second floor end. On the first floor, a double hung nine over nine window with green shutters is visible in the frame side, and a double-hung, nine over nine window with a brick arch and green shutters and another small window are visible in the brick end. Basement windows are visible also. On the opposite end of the house are two barely-visible outbuildings. The one closest to the house is a small, low building with a church spire style roof capped by a white globe. Its walls are white arches--it may be a gazebo. The other building is a white one story frame house with an outside end, single stack chimney and a gable roof. All the chimneys in this picture have lightning rods! There are driveways and paths to all parts of these buildings and lovely landscaping and garden urns make this a substantial establishment.
